Students from Communities Nationwide to Lead 9/11 Day Projects Centered on Service and Peacemaking
The National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) is proud to announce the eleven youth teams selected to participate in Youth as Solutions: Peacemaking cohort, a national service-learning initiative launched in partnership with 9/11 Day and AmeriCorps. This program empowers youth leaders to turn the memory of September 11 into a movement for unity and service through hands-on projects designed to create positive change in their local communities.
This year’s teams include:
- 4-H Inspires After-School (Utah State University)
- City of Spartanburg
- Cuyo Youth Program (Afro-Caribbean Cultural Center)
- Global Legacy Network, Inc. (GLN)
- JMMF YAC (Jackson Medical Mall Foundation)
- Los Angeles High School of the Arts Community Care Committee
- No Lost Food Youth
- Operation Grow Inc.
- PHS Gen 1 (Princeton High School)
- Vaux Solution (Vaux Big Picture High School)
- Youth Revive, Inc.
These teams, composed of middle and high school students, will lead peacemaking service-learning projects that culminate in local events to mark the 9/11 National Day of Service. From food distribution to environmental restoration to mental wellness campaigns, each initiative reflects the power of youth leadership in strengthening communities and advancing peace.
“By investing in the leadership and civic engagement of our youth, we believe this program not only contributes to building a more peaceful and united society, but also honors the spirit of unity that emerged in the aftermath of 9/11,” said Amy Meuers, CEO of the National Youth Leadership Council.
Since its founding in 2002, 9/11 Day has become the largest day of service in the United States, with more than 30 million Americans participating annually. The Youth as Solutions: Peacemaking cohort ensures that young leaders carry this legacy forward, transforming the anniversary of tragedy into a powerful day of hope, unity, and action.
“Millions of young people in the U.S. have little or no memory of the 9/11 tragedy,” said David Paine, president and co-founder of 9/11 Day. “Projects like these play a vital role in keeping the promise to never forget those lost on 9/11 and those who rose in service in response.”
