Leadership is not an innate trait but a skill that can be developed through service, learning, civic engagement, and self-expression. Our approach focuses on cultivating key values that are fundamental to effective leadership.
Integrity: We emphasize the importance of aligning actions with values and principles. Young leaders learn to stand firm in their beliefs, even in the face of adversity, building trust, credibility, and respect among their peers and community members.
Empathy: Leadership flourishes when leaders can connect with others on a deeper level. By fostering empathy, young people learn to understand diverse perspectives, inspire collaboration, promote inclusivity, and create environments where everyone feels valued and heard.
Collaboration: Effective leadership is never a solo endeavor. Collaboration teaches young leaders to work together with others, leveraging diverse strengths to achieve shared goals. It involves active listening, mutual respect, and a commitment to teamwork, ensuring that leadership is inclusive, cooperative, and driven by a collective vision for change.
Civic Responsibility: True leadership transcends personal success and focuses on contributing to the greater good. We instill a spirit of civic responsibility, empowering young leaders to serve their communities, advocate for justice, and drive positive social change with purpose and accountability.
Our framework ensures that young leaders develop the skills and mindset necessary to lead with authenticity, compassion, and a commitment to collective impact!
NYLC, in partnership with InnerView, is creating a nationwide youth leadership training initiative designed to empower young people to lead change in their schools and communities. This program combines NYLC’s decades of expertise in service-learning and youth leadership with InnerView’s innovative platform to provide accessible, engaging experiences that help students develop skills, confidence, and a strong sense of civic responsibility. Together, we are building pathways for young people to discover their voice, grow as leaders, and make a meaningful impact.
