New Partnership Empowers California Students to Earn Civic Seal through Service-Learning
National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) is excited to announce two new partnerships with California School Districts, Pajaro Valley Unified and Stockton Unified. These collaborations aim to develop a uniquely customized plan that supports efforts to champion the California State Seal for Civic Engagement for high school students across both districts.
These new partnerships will aid administrators, teachers, counselors, and district leadership in leveraging service-learning as a strategy that merges subject area instruction with experiential service-learning experiences. NYLC’s approach cultivates a profound comprehension of equity and community among students by involving them in activities that directly tackle societal challenges while also reinforcing their academic knowledge and skills.
“NYLC is dedicated to empowering educators to guide students towards earning their state’s Civic Seal through transformative service-learning experiences,” said NYLC CEO, Amy Meuers. “Our comprehensive professional development equips educators with the tools, strategies, and resources needed to inspire and support youth in making meaningful contributions to their communities while meeting state requirements.”
The project emphasizes community-focused learning as essential in quality service-learning experiences. Students will engage in acquiring and applying cross-disciplinary, standards-based academic content knowledge while developing college and career readiness skills in critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and innovation to address the root causes of substantive real-world community issues.
