Calling all educators, this fall we are offering something that will be music to your ears (and, no, it’s not “summer break”)…FREE professional development training! These special, two-hour sessions will focus on two of our favorite things: service-learning and youth-adult partnerships. Oh, and a bonus: You’ll earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) upon completion. Did we mention both training sessions are completely FREE to the public?

Both sessions will be held in the Larpenteur Room at TIES Conference Center in St. Paul, MN. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is preferred and appreciated.

Introduction to High-Quality Service-Learning Instruction
Thursday November 9, 2017, 4-6 p.m.
Connecting curriculum with genuine community needs makes content meaningful and relevant to students while providing real world experience. Service-learning takes learning outside the classroom walls while meeting academic objectives. Join us for this interactive, two-hour workshop to learn more about high-quality service-learning and how it enhances current teaching practice and student engagement.
Climbing the Ladder to Meaningful Youth-Adult partnerships in the classroom
Thursday December 7, 2017, 4-6 p.m.
Promoting youth voice and choice in the classroom is key to effective and sustainable partnerships that will lead to a better educational experiences for young people. This interactive, two-hour workshop proposes Roger Hart’s Ladder of Participation as an evaluation and planning tool for educators. The Ladder of Participation details levels of youth involvement in classrooms and youth programs, from the lowest level of “manipulation” to the highest level of youth-initiated activities with youth-adult shared decision-making.
